27 January - Google Part 2

What?

This time we learned about our Google websites.  We went over the different kinds of web pages available, how to add them and how to make them look.

So What?

As a teacher this can mean that I can have all my announcements and assignments and everything pretty much all on one, classroom website!  It's cool that it can all be in one place - like an online file, where parents and students can access it when they need to.  It's very handy that it's free, on google and easy to use.

Now What?

This technology will be great for my future students.  If ever they have a question, the answers are just right there on the class web page.  Also, I think it's good for students to get used to using websites and a young age, especially when our world, (specifically the world of education) is becoming so paperless.  I will most definitely have a class website in the future, I think it's an excellent way to keep everyone up to date and involved.  Because websites are public, everyone who needs to see it can - including my principle and colleagues.  I look forward to using google sites in the future with my students - and possible even in my outside of school life.  I now know how to make a website if I ever need to make one for something else!

20 January - Google Pt. 1

What?

Last time we learned A LOT!  Well, for the class it was.  A lot of it was stuff I already knew how to do from Doc Waters' class before.  We learned how to create a Google Doc, Presentation, Form and Spreadsheet.  We also learned how to make "pretty links" which I didn't know how to do.  She showed us Google Chat as well which was a lot of fun.  We went into Google Calendar for a little bit as well and we were able to make our calendars private.

So what?

As a teacher, this means so much (what it really means is "Oh good, this is going to make my life a lot easier).  It is SO wonderful that we can just do all these things online and forget about flash drives and the stress of buying Microsoft software.  I have used Google Docs in the past.  I love writing, and maybe someday I'll actually publish something.  Sometimes I just feel the need to write.  So, I've made a private google documents before that I can access from ANYWHERE whenever I feel the need to write!  It's amazing!

Now What?

Google Chat was really fun in class, we were very entertained by that.  Chatting online is just fun no matter how old you are.  I think it will be a great way to comminicate with my students.  I can say when I'll be online and if they  have questions on an assignment we can chat.  Also, it would be fun to do a collaborative assignment  like we're doing in class right now.   Also, collaboritive flyers and announcements can be made my a grade of teachers and then send it out to parents.

I think that just understanding that these resources are available to me, and knowing how to use them well be a huge advantage to me as a teacher.  If I know of these resources then I become a resource to those around me.

13 January - Intro. Special Topic: Goals, Aspirations, Strengths and Weaknesses

I have always loved people.  I love "people watching" and meeting new people.  I love learning about and talking about others backgrounds, beliefs, cultures....etc.  People are just great.  It's great to get to know them.  But the best thing about people is that they can change you.  They can make a difference, they have made a difference.

And so, because, people, being who they are, having inspired me just by living.  I have been inspired to be the one to make a difference.  I've had this dream for quite a while now, and as a teacher, I feel that I can help accomplish this goal.

Some of people that I admire so much are none other than children.  They're people too!  They influence me in so many ways.  I love their innocence and eagerness to learn.  I want to be there for them, and to, in return influence them.  I dream to be the kind of teacher that they reciprocate the feeling.

I feel like I'm good at connecting with children.  I just love to be their friends.  I think this is a strength and a weakness.  A strength because, obviously, not everyone likes kids.  Some can't even stand them.  It's a weakness in a sense that I care too much about what they think of me.  When really, it doesn't matter.

I'm good at computers.  I'm looking forward to this class just because I know it will come easily to me.  Technology is so amazing and wonderful and I quote Kip when I say "I love technology!"

I'm somewhat of a procrastinator though.  In training to become a teacher will definitely help me to stop this habit!....hopefully.

So that's a little bit about me.

“A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.” - John Lennon
Together, we can all make our dreams of becoming teachers reality!
